Biography

 

Julio D'Escriván is a composer, sound designer and music producer. He has a doctorate (Ph.D., TCU 1991) in Electroacoustic Composition from The City University, London where he studied under Simon Emmerson and, occasionally, Robert Saxton. Also a guitarist with an interest in both classical, ethnic and popular music having studied with Chris Kilvington and Nigel St. Clair Morgan and obtained his LGSM (guitar teaching) in 1984. For his undergraduate music education he attended Anglia Polytechnic University, and was taught composition by John Hopkins. Other influential teachers include Peter Britton and Bob Reeve. He took classes with Robin Holloway at Cambridge for one year before going to City University to work on his doctorate. 

He has released 3 commercially available records: "Cantos y Tonadas" (1997), Venezuelan music arranged and played with instruments from other ethnic backgrounds . "VOX" (1998) which features the electroacoustic intervention of the human voice, incorporating pre-Columbian dialects found in Venezuela), and finally "Inventos Bárbaros" (1999) which deals with music for TV and for the stage.

Julio D'Escriván is currently living and working in Caracas, Venezuela and preparing a new body of work under his own label, Bongo Musique Editora.
